The Supreme Manifestation of Divine Grace

Sri Giriraj Govardhan is non-different from Lord Sri Krishna Himself, yet He eternally serves as Haridasa-varya (the foremost devotee of the Lord). The 21-kilometer (seven kos) parikrama around the sacred hill is regarded as one of the most spiritually potent pilgrimages in the entire universe.

The Two Halves: Chhoti and Badi Parikrama

The sacred circumambulation is traditionally divided into two segments:

  • Badi Parikrama (approx. 12 km): Originates at Manasi Ganga, passing Dan Ghati, Govinda Kunda, Puchari Ka Lautha, and Anyor village.
  • Chhoti Parikrama (approx. 9 km): Encompasses the most confidential leela-sthalis, notably Sri Radha Kunda and Sri Shyama Kunda, Kusuma Sarovara, and Narada Kunda.

Devotional Etiquette and Preparations

Devotees are advised to begin parikrama in the tranquil early morning or during the cool evening breeze. Traditional etiquette encourages walking barefoot or in simple soft footwear, maintaining continuous chanting of the Holy Names (Harinam Japa), and refraining from stepping onto the holy rocks of Sri Giriraj Ji. For elderly yatris or families with young children, battery-operated e-rickshaws are available while preserving the serene sanctity of the dham.
