Music, Sadhana & Sacred Lineage
The cultural soil of Braj and Vrindavan has carried the depth of sacred melody for centuries. Here, music is not treated as mere entertainment, but as an elevated spiritual discipline (sadhana) where classical precision and devotional surrender unite.
Vrindavan Sangeet Samiti exists to ensure that this invaluable heritage remains a living, learnable art. We offer structured classical training across vocal, instrumental, and percussion traditions, grounded in the oral lineage of the Guru-Shishya parampara and enriched by the sacred pad-gayan and Pad-Bhav of Braj.
Our institutional work connects traditional practice with clear educational organization, providing learners with structured curricula, experienced mentorship, and formal evaluation frameworks.

The Six Foundational Values
Every aspect of education and practice at VSS is shaped by six distinct principles:
Sadhana
Disciplined, unhurried daily riyaz building solid technical and spiritual grounding.
Vishuddh Parampara
Faithfulness to authentic musical lineage, classical grammar, and hereditary aesthetics.
Bhakti through Music
Honouring music as a sacred offering connecting classical precision with devotional sincerity.
Pad-Bhav & Braj Ras
Infusing musical execution with profound comprehension of sacred Braj poetry and sentiment.
Guru-Shishya Parampara
Direct oral transmission, patient guidance, and mutual reverence between teacher and disciple.
Heritage & Youth
Engaging upcoming generations through accessible, structured, and inspiring education.
Sri Khol (Bengali Khol) Tradition
The Sri Khol (also known as the Bengali Khol or Mridang) is an integral rhythmic instrument of Braj sankirtan and devotional assemblies. Its intricate bols, characteristic resonance, and delicate accompaniment dynamics carry deep cultural significance.
VSS’s initiative seeks to develop structured learning, assessment and certification around the tradition, ensuring that its rhythmic knowledge (tal-shastra), accompaniment nuances, and Guru guidance are preserved and formally recognized.
Connecting Younger Generations with Braj Heritage
A central commitment of Vrindavan Sangeet Samiti is engaging youth. Traditional music flourishes only when younger minds discover its beauty, depth, and relevance. Through structured five-tier syllabi, supportive examinations, and practical masterclasses, the Samiti fosters an environment where young practitioners can build solid foundations in classical vocal, percussion, harmonium, flute, and Sri Khol.
Rooted in patience, lineage respect, and personal mentorship, our approach helps youth find pride and spiritual nourishment in their classical heritage.
